Quick look Android 43 vs Android 422 on the 2012 Nexus 7

first_imgGoogle’s press event yesterday brought with it an updated version of Android that is now rolling out to their Nexus line and shipping with the all new Nexus 7. What about the current Nexus 7, though? We did a side by side compare of 4.3 and 4.2.2 to see if there would be any noticeable changes.Android 4.3 had been leaked ahead of the official reveal, especially on the Galaxy S4 Google Play edition, so we had a pretty good idea of what to expect when looking at this new version. Google’s newest Jelly Bean is all about polish, with enhancements to WiFi, Bluetooth, and developer tools. As with everything else in the last year, Google is focusing on breaking down the barriers standing between developers and the next great app while packaging their features in services that can be used on anything with Google Play access. Still, as with any new version of Android it is worth taking a look and seeing what has changed for the users. The 2012 Nexus 7 is not a tablet known for its raw horsepower, but the difference in booting between 4.2.2 and 4.3 in this instance was a little surprising. There’s very little difference in the apps that have been installed on these devices, though they are not carbon copies of one another. The Nexus 7 running Android 4.3 seemed to offer smoother animations when navigating the notifications and quick settings areas, but seemed identical in sliding between pages on the desktop. The visual differences are slight, but they exist all the same. You would likely only notice this in the unlikely situation that you had these two devices side by side, but it does offer some insight into what you can expect when 4.3 arrives on your device.last_img read more
